A video that covers the most common questions asked about teaching online. It highlights the key information that teachers/schools need if they want to deliver online. I have been running online courses in one form or another since 2000. The video focuses on the following key issues
1) It explains some of the common metadata around words like virtual classroom and virtual learning environment
2) Explain the difference between free tools like SKYPE and paid tools like ClickMeeting, Zoom etc
3) Focus on how Moodle/Blackboard are different to tools like Edmodo/Schoology
4) Explain two different approaches to the teaching component of a lesson. Either the teacher delivers a live online session or the teacher pre-records the session using a screen capture or lecture capture tool.
5) A clear summary where I bring together the major considerations when teaching online.

The video takes you through the key parts of delivering an online course. Part one is the teaching part. We normally need to find a way of replacing the teacher. This is either done through a live webinar tool like Zoom, ClickMeeting, Adobe Connect or it can be done through SKYPE if you have a small class. SKYPE offers a very basic delivery but you can screen share. Products like Zoom, Clickmeeting etc offer many more options and can make the delivery of your online learning really professional. You can record the lessons, send out the recordings automatically , have many more students in a class. For example, I recently gave a webinar using ClickMeeting where I had over 350 people online at the same time. They all received a recording of the webinar too.
The second part of teaching online is how the students are going to interact and process and use what you teach them. To do this you need to use a virtual learning environment like Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas. These tools are normally administered by the school or by a tech department. Tools like Edmodo or Schoology can be administered by the teaching. You can create classes on Edmodo, each class you created will produce a code. You then share this code with the students and this way you can deliver online. Once your students are logged in, it is easy to share content, have discussions, share videos, set quizzes and set assignments. Edmodo is a free tool and very popular.
